Jagdeep Singh lives with his mother. His father passed away in 2013 from a road accident and died instantly. Jagdeep’s father used to drive an auto rickshaw, which he bought by taking on a 250, 000 rupee loan. After his passing, Jagdeep’s mother had to clear off the loan by selling some of her land. Now the family has one acre left, which they rent out and receive about only 2000 rupees each month. With her in-laws deceased as well, Jagdeep’s mother has no one left to support her, but she works very hard to provide for her family. She does stitching work and manages to earn about 4000 rupees every month, but Jagdeep’s family is still struggling to meet basic month to month needs such as food and Jagdeep’s school fees. Their living conditions are also terrible as they live in a house shared by 4 other families and have access to only one washroom. They also have inadequate access to electricity and running water.
